Lowrance hds 8 w/ ss power wiring ???
Installing a HDS 8 w/ SS bundle and have a ?? or two about how to go about it. The SS/LSS-1 module/black box is mounted within reach of the fuse panel to wire it directly to the fuse panel, as is the HDS 8 HU. Both are mounted/being mounted at the console. I would prefer/plan to wire/connect them both to the fuse panel since its right there and convenient.
My previous console DF's were wired directly to the fuse panel, and I would always just turn the DF off when loading up, so I'm pretty sure the fuse panel is always hot since I could turn the console DF on anytime in the garage and it would fire up with no issues.
The LSS 1 wiring instructions state that if I connect the yellow wire in the LSS power wire to the yellow wire in the HU power wire, then the SS functions will turn on/off when the HU is turned on/off. I understand that. I also have the option to install an accessory switch to turn the SS module on/off independently while the HU would still function as a DF/FF/GPS unit.
If I connect both units directly to the fuse panel on seperate connections/fuses, and connect the two yellow wires together, will the SS module turn off when the HU is turned off even though it is connected directly to the fuse panel or would the SS stay "on" all the time wired this way??
What would happen if I wired BOTH units to the SAME fuse panel connection and conected the two yellow wires togethers. Logic tells me both units would turn on and off based on what I did to the HU, but I could run into issues of drawing too much juice thru that one connection with both units on, possibly for extended periods.
I do not plan on connecting any other HDS units up at this time.
How did you HDS owners hook your unit(s) up??
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
