Does your 788ci show that the gps is connected to it in the Accessory test screen? How to get there -- Menu x 2 , Right Cursor to Views, scroll down to Accessory test and change view from hidden to visible.

Then press the view button till you get to that screen, on this screen it will tell you what you have connected to the unit. Should the unit show that the gps is connected, then go back into your view menu (Menu x 2 , Right Cursor to Views) and put your gps diagnostic view to visible, exit out then scroll through the view using your view button to get to the gps diagnostic view and see what type of gps fix you have on the unit : no fix , 3D fix, enhanced fix.

If the unit shows gps unconnected and you have just the internal gps receiver on the 788ci then there is a problem with the receiver in the unit and yes, the unit would need to be returned for service. If your unit is out of the year warranty the service charge on the 788ci is $170.45. The service fee on the unit would include all parts, labor, return shipping to you and a 90 day warranty on the service of the unit.

    Thanks for the info
it says its not connected. The thing is i had a lowrance unit i sold to get this 788ci--- Yea its little over two years old. But side by side the lowrance work better then this model. Only differance ---this one color. The unit still works as far as showing bush plies and such--- but no more can i go to my hot spots by gps. I figure for 170.45 i don't need the gps anyway. However when it comes to locating the fish i always trusted my Vexliar Flasher.

Since I wasn’t going to send the unit in to get repaired for175$ I took it apart to see if the parts inside might of gotten wet. I workvery slowly till I had all of it part and laying on the table and then I discoverit had a VIRUS.
So I put it all back together. Then I walked over to thesink and got my wife’s dish washing liquid and apply to the front of the unitand swipe off quickly.
Reinstalled to the unit on the boat and it works fine.
The problem was Sticky Button Virus
