Humminbird 998

I have a 998 on the console and a 898 on the front. The 998 won't load the maps but the 898 will. So I switched the two and same problem. So I tried to set the two units up the same and on the 898 it has a setting called chart source - auto on the 998 I couldn't find that option. I thought about saying yes to factory default, but wanted to talk to someone first. These units are brand new and have not been on the water yet. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Rick

Under the "Setup" tab should be a selection for "User Mode"...

Make sure this selection is set to "Advanced"..

Then go under the "Chart" tab in the Main Menu system to see if the selection for "Chart Select" is there...

Ok I did that and I'm on the advanced. I went back to the chart tab in the main menu and I couldn't find a chart select tab, but there is one on the 898. Any other ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks Rick

Maybe Greg will show up and help out. Sounds like you might have a problem. Should be the third item down, under chart tab, while in Advanced user mode. Just as Rick stated.

Try resetting to factory defaults...

If the "Chart" tab still does not show up the Main menu... Then you will need to call HB...1-800-633-1468...

On the 998 try this.. Power on the unit. menu twice, right cursor to views, go down to accessory test and change that view to visible. Press the exit button,
then press the view button until you get to the accessory test screen. What does the unit show as being attached to it?

Check & make sure your GPS puck is plugged in right & you have a signal. I just got a 998 too & had the same problem. I checked & my plug was in the y cable backwards. Had no GPS SIGNAL. I'm on the boat right now so I can't look but I seem to remember something screwy about the plugs. I flipped the plugs & it started work'n.

Thanks everyone for your help. The 998 got sent back last night. I was surprised that I had to pay for shipping and they are not sending me a new one. Thanks again Rick
