    Default Trolling motor disconnect

I need some opinions on plug or disconnect to cut the power to the TM. Its a PDV2 55 12 volt. If you dont disconnect power the remote to the I Pilot stays on all the time. I need something small that can be used by the battery to disconnect power. I already have an automatic 50 amp breaker, I was trying to keep from taking off of the bat. terminal each time. What I would like to find is a molded 2 wire connector similar to the old Ford type, only with 8ga. wire. I also dont have a plug at the front to disconnect, its wired directly to the bat.

    Thanks for your suggestions, Wilbur

When I had my tm hard wired to the battery I pulled the in-line 50 amp fuse. I highly recommend you disconnect after each time you use the boat but your remote will cut off if it is not stored close to the boat. There is also a button on the remote to cut it off with by holding down until it cuts off.

Perko switch works great for this application. You could mount it near the tm if you want and wire it in series with the power lead. I like them. Simple is good.

There are battery post disconnect switches. You can google it up. I believe they are one turn disconnects used in RVs and such. Mounts on battery terminal and are cheap too.

Wilber, on the old style I-pilot remotes it's the 3rd button down on the right side. The button has this on it... " I I " Just press and hold a few seconds and the remote shuts off. I do this every time I dont have my trolling motor deployed and have never had to change a remote battery....yet! To start the remote back up just hit a button, any button.
