You have a voltage loss! Check your battery voltage, and all your connections. If you are getting power for the unit from a fuse panel, consider running a wire directly to the battery with an inline fuse.

Anyone having an issue with there unit locking up? Seems like if I leave it on and go to restart the motor the screen go's to a bunch of lines up and down the screen, I can not turn the unit off or anything, I have to remove the head wait a few seconds then plug it back in and it works fine.

Thanks Shellback.....I am running into the fuse panel and the battery that supplies it is the same battery the motor starts off of so that do's sound right since the initial cranking of the motor might be robbing some of the power, I think I will run a wire to my trolling motor battery since its a bigger and newer battery and see if that takes care of the problem.
Thanks again.![]()
If you run power from the trolling motor battery you run the risk of having interference problems.

Try running the unit directly to the crank battery not going through your fuse panel. Just be use to use an inline fuse holder with a 1 or 3 amp fuse.
Yea I thought of that RBeav so I didn't try-it and ran it like HBirdDeb suggested......takin it out to night for a test run and hopefully load up the livewell.
Thanks again all!!![]()
If you get interference, you can buy an inline noise filter online or at any stereo shop (Best Buy, Amazon, etc). They are inexpensive and should eliminate all of the noise. They simply connect inline with the positive lead.
might try a lawn mower battery and use it for your power source, just recharge it, seen it done a lot here in NC

Mine does the same thing...I just shut it off before I start the motor.
You're getting a power drop when you start the motor which causes the HB to freeze up.
Haven't tried to wire it directly to the battery yet...lemme know if that fixed ur problem.
mine does the same thing except not on starting the motor, rather running down the River. ran the wires direct to the starting battery (12 guage marine wire with 3 amp bayonet fuse). (soldered all connections) tested battery under load said 13 volts. still happened (screen went white then bars came across screen from left to right). Called hummingbird. they are sending me a new power cable to try. will see what happens in 3-5 days when cable gets here.
