Default Lowrance hds 8 w/ ss power wiring ???

Installing a HDS 8 w/ SS bundle and have a ?? or two about how to go about it. The SS/LSS-1 module/black box is mounted within reach of the fuse panel to wire it directly to the fuse panel, as is the HDS 8 HU. Both are mounted/being mounted at the console. I would prefer/plan to wire/connect them both to the fuse panel since its right there and convenient.

My previous console DF's were wired directly to the fuse panel, and I would always just turn the DF off when loading up, so I'm pretty sure the fuse panel is always hot since I could turn the console DF on anytime in the garage and it would fire up with no issues.

The LSS 1 wiring instructions state that if I connect the yellow wire in the LSS power wire to the yellow wire in the HU power wire, then the SS functions will turn on/off when the HU is turned on/off. I understand that. I also have the option to install an accessory switch to turn the SS module on/off independently while the HU would still function as a DF/FF/GPS unit.

If I connect both units directly to the fuse panel on seperate connections/fuses, and connect the two yellow wires together, will the SS module turn off when the HU is turned off even though it is connected directly to the fuse panel or would the SS stay "on" all the time wired this way??

What would happen if I wired BOTH units to the SAME fuse panel connection and conected the two yellow wires togethers. Logic tells me both units would turn on and off based on what I did to the HU, but I could run into issues of drawing too much juice thru that one connection with both units on, possibly for extended periods.

I do not plan on connecting any other HDS units up at this time.

How did you HDS owners hook your unit(s) up??

I wired the as module to be actives with a switch. I wanted to be able to turn off the ss transducer if I wasn't using it. Both the ss and depth finder are wired directly to the starter battery with seperate fuses. I wired the accessory switch to the power buss that is controlled by the main switch. That way if I forget to turn off the switch to the ss it gets it's power cut when I turn off the main power switch. I used the twisted pair approach for the power wires to the battery and the setup has worked well so far. It is my understanding that as long a you wire the two yellow wires together that the units would power up and turn off together. But I didn't set mine up that way. Good luck.

    ..

yes, its on the front/TM. Had a Mark 5 on the front and the TD wire would not fit in the slot on my Terrova, so I went HB to clean it up and did the TD wire up the slot on the shaft to clean it up.

I ran one set of power wires from my starting battery (fused) to a 4 pole switch panel I added to my console. That allowed me to to have my front hds8 unit, console unit hds 7, and the lss-1 side scan all basically ran off one good set of wires but all wired independantly to that switch panel. Works perfectly and never no issues. All 3 units on separate toggle switches on that panel.

Hmmmmm. I've wired a ton of these units, and never put em on switches. If you don't want to use the LSS unit, just switch pages on the HDS. The HDS units all have power switches on them, so I can't see a reason to add another one. I know the LSS unit doesn't have a power button on it, but why have to turn on a switch if you wanted to use it. Just change pages and it's on.

The LSS unit will only come on with the HDS if you connect the yellow wires together. You can run the main power wire, the red one, direct to a fuse box of ya want. I wouldn't hook the yellow to a fuse panel tho. It'll stay on if ya do, and could drain yer battery, unless you hook it to an ignition wire, in which case you would have to leave the ignition switch on to use it. Don't make it harder than it is!!! I got it wired up and working, well, the gps and the simulator works, did not have a chance to hit the water and see if it "really" works or not. LOL I connected the two yellow wires together and connected the HU pwr lead to the fuse panel, and connected the LSS box pwr lead to a seperate spot on the fuse panel. Thanks for the replies

Does anyone know if the SS/SI module pulls that much more juice than the 2d/gps side of the unit? The specs call for .70mha (?) I think, but is this for all the functions, or what? anyone know???
