I saw the description on Humminbird .com. Says it adds a waypoint manager to GPS. What does this do for the unit? Is it some of the same stuff You can do on Humminbird PC?CF

You will have to register your unit with HB...http://www.humminbird.com/Support/

Then the latest update will be in your account where you can download it to a SD card to put in your unit for updating...

Did the update this morning. Only took a minute and worked fine as far as I know. I like the waypoint manager and also noticed that it turned the default color on the SI to amber? Just wonder why that was done? I like that color too. I switch back and forth between the blue and the amber as You can see cover better in one or the other some times. Makes no difference to me about the default change.CF

I was already registered from the last upgrade to DI. Went on last night, logged in and saw 4 different things to download. here is an example of one of them.

    Download

son2xtf for Windows Vista (Version 1.001)
    Release Date: 03/24/2008

    Description:
v1.001 Adds a Windows installer and Windows-oriented user interface, so that recording conversion is simplified. Command line interface from v1.000 still supported. Son2xtf is a PC application that converts Humminbird sonar recording (.son) files to EXtended Triton Format (XTF) revision 24, a public sonar recording format.

    Prerequisite:
A PC-compatible computer running Windows Vista. An XTF viewer is required to view the XTF sonar files produced by this tool. Here are links to two freely available XTF viewers: DeepVision’s free viewer DeepView FV (version 2.2 or later) http://www.deepvision.se/download.htm Matt Norwood’s SIView: SIView

    Instructions:
Download the file and double-click to begin the installation.

    WHAT THE HE**?

I intend to begin a local college computer class to even UNDERSTAND what that means and why I need it. Come on man, it could be made a lot more user friendly and in easier to understand language than that for some of us, and I dont think Im stupid...I dont think.

Anyway, hit download, save, then of course, it couldnt run it, I had to go to the internet and download something else to be able to open it. I finally downloaded Humminbird PC, and this one, and will attempt to actually get the 5.8 onto a card today. Im sure that whatever card I have wont work, and I will need to download something else to make it work.

It just seems to me that the "computer guy" that creates this "easy to do downloading" needs to have a normal guy sitting there to test the thing to tell him, "hey dude, that seems complicated to me, why dont you put a tab that says click here and the COMPUTER can do the rest?" The problem is, for someone that lives and breathes this kinds stuff it IS easy. For someone that uses a computer mostly because he HAS to, its not as simple as its made out to be.

I also did this and I still can't get it to work. I have win 7 that might be the problem.
BTY the son. download is what you use to watch the recordings from your. side scan...right?

It is very unlikely that you would use the son2xtf converter program....the xtf format is not the 1 most use to view the HB recordings....

Humviewer is the most user friendly and widely used program to view the HB recordings on a pc ....

    Kman,
Try downloading the one that is labeled “798” or whatever the model number of your unit is. This is the software update file for your unit. You do not open it in your computer. You download it to your computer or directly to an SD memory card. If you download it to your computer you will still have to save a copy of it to the SD memory card.

Here is a link to the FAQ page which gives directions on how to do this. There is another link to a video on how to do this as well.
