motor guide wireless trolling motor

ive been looking at them for a bit I didnt know if I could get some input from people that had or still have them or if I should just get a minnkota???????

I have not had one personally but had 2 friends that did. One ended up getting a MK the other likes his but admits that the steering is not as responsive as he would like.

I have a 75lb wireless with the built in transducer. I sort of like it. it was great when it was new, but I fish a LOT, and over time the steering has slowed a lot and I have had to have it fixed a few times. once I plugged in my battery charger without unplugging the trolling motor and the power surge fried the computer in it. then I hit a big wave at the lake and it knocked the lower unit loose. then the 'puter fried again.(my fault again). once I kicked the footpedal in and while they do float they aint waterproof enough to go swimming.
so I dunno what to say, mine still works after four years of steady abuse, but I have had to work on it some. I live on the missouri river and I bowfish and catfish almost daily and I'm on the water year round, so I am really hard on my equipment and its still hangin in there. but at the same time if I were gonna drop ALMOST a grand on a troller, I would spend a little more and get a minkota with I pilot or co-pilot. just my opinion.

I've had one for about a year that came on a used boat I bought. I like the fact that I can run it from anywhere in the boat and it is very solid when stowed. The one I have is probably a 2005 model. It beeps every time you make a steering adjustment or a speed adjustment- somewhat annoying. It also quits working every now and then. If I unplug and re-plug it works fine again. Steering adjustments are much different than a "rocker pedal" type.

I would probably buy something else if I were buying a new trolling motor today, but it's not something that's annoying enough for me to want to replace.

I also had the same problem, replaced it with a Terrova and I'm glad I did.

If I were in the market for a cable steer, I would buy Motorguide.
If I were in the market for a power drive, I would buy Minnkota.

I recently bought the W75 and love it. Is a great motor and does everything as advertised. the only "problem" is it apparently does need line of sight for the wireless to work. If I leave the back to my seat up in the bow and am in the back of the boat I have to hold up the remote above the seat......so obviously I just put the back down and all is fine.
I changed the column on mine, was a 48" and I put a 60" on it. The shaft on on that thing is pretty much indestructible. I hit it with a hand sledge hammer and couldn't break it.
Forgot - the one thing I think Motorguide messed up on. There is no light on the head of the motor. At night you can not see which way it is pointed.....not good imo. You could just put some glow in the dark tape on it but since I was replacing the shaft, I put a LED light on it........I talked about that HERE
First time out I was not too sure about the mount, now I would buy one all over again. Only thing I could think of that would be better is an Ipilot with wireless.

the terrova is awsome, you can get use to any type of steering if you have a little time to practice and are not in a big rush while your fishing ... the terrova is awsome.... eaven if your in a hurry now that I have thought about it
