    Question 798 & 998 and Interlink Question

Will I be able to link my 798 (not an HD Model) to my new 998 with my Interlink. The 798 has the 5.840 software. Don't know what the 998 will have when it gets here.

If the 998 has the latest 6.180 then the two units would not be able to interface. They would both have to be on 5.xxx or both on a 6.xxx software in order to interface with one another.

That's what I was afraid of. HB has not provided a software update beyond 5.840 for the 798. Are there any plans for another software update for the 798 or am I just screwed? Or... Can I roll back the software on the 998 until I decide to upgrade the 798 to a 788 HD Di or a 858 HD DI?

We do not recommend that a units software be downgraded from what is factory installed on the unit.
It is my understanding that a software update will be available in the future for the 798 and 788 non hd units in the near future.

I wonder if this could possibly harm something in the unit...or just because "HB said so"...??

It has more to do with the actual components inside the unit Rickie. Sometimes electronic components get phased out and are no longer available so a replacement has to be found. There are not always drop in replacements and so the unit’s software may have to be modified to compensate for the differences between components. Loading an older version of software, than what the unit was originally manufactured with, could completely disable your unit. This may require the unit to be sent in and have the memory devices within the unit replaced.

I should also add that in the advent that you have an InterLink in the mix, like Wiskers, when you downgrade the unit software; it does not downgrade the InterLink software which can cause a problem.
