Default more questions before i buy a 998

How can I tell if I am getting the latest version of the 998? or what is the latest version/model? I noticed one site saying they were still selling the 2010 model.

Also is there any other difference in a 998si CHO and non CHO other than the CHO does not have a transducer?

I want to get this ordered.. thanks'

I don't think you get a mount or cables either, Control Head Only.

Its always a good idea to register the new unit once you buy one on Humminbirds website. That way you will be notified as to when new software updates are available. As soon as I recieved my 898 a month ago I found out that there was a new version of software so I installed it before I even hit the water with it. Very easy to do!!!

If you can get the retailer to state to you the serial number on the unit...it will give you the date of manufacture...

The first 2 digits are year...10,11,12...etc
The next 2 digits are month... 01,02,08,12...etc
The next 2 digits are day... 01,02,08,30 etc
The next 2 digits are production line in the plant..
The next digits are sequential units built on that line - that day...

    jaxxman,
The only changes we have made to the 998c Si units is through software, which as others have stated can be updated when you receive the unit. There have been no other changes made to this product other that software, so anyone you buy is as good as the next. Just check what software version is in the unit when you receive it and update the software if needed.

A CHO unit does not come packaged with a transducer. Everything else comes with it.
