You can use it other units too. It will not work as a system card if you have two units interlinked. You will have to have a card for each unit.

Good Morning, I'm working on pulling the trigger on a HB 798 unit and I'm wondering whether or not I should get a card for this unit? I already have the Navionics app on my Android phone so I'm curious if there is very much difference in that app compared to the card. Also, if I use this card on my unit and say we go out on my buddies boat, can I use that card on his 898 or will it only work in the original unit it was downloaded too? I was just curious if they were worth the money and what the limitations were on them. Thanks for the help.

You can use it on any unit that takes it.I have the Navionics south card and ran it with my Eagle 480.Now I use it with my 798 and used it for the first time yesterday works just fine.I really like the 798 very user friendly did some setting i got off this site and found some brushpiles yesterday. That side scan sure makes it easier to find structure should have did this from the start.
The HB Combo units come with preinstalled Contour XD base maps...
Here is the list of lakes that have contour lines on the base maps...
If your lake is not listed... The base map for your lake will be basic shorelines with no contour lines...
If your lake is not listed... You will definitely want to purchase the Navionics or Lakemaster chip for your region for contour detail and navigational aids...

I don’t use the Navionics App so I don’t know the detail level that may be on those maps but I would bet that it does not compare to the detail level on the HD lakes on the Navionics mapping cards.
The mapping cards do not load into the units; the units pull the data from the mapping cards as needed but they do not store this information. So one mapping card (Navionics or LakeMaster) can be used on multiple units but only one at a time.
I know the Lakemaster chip I have will put contour lines at 1'.....I'm sure the free app won't put that kind of detail in
The software interface you see on the Android app viewing Navionics charts is -- of course -- much different than the interface on the chart plotter. So even the way you interact with the chart changes a bit: on the Android app (or iPhone / iPad with iNavX app) you may find zooming and panning around a chart more effortless and fluid. And you may tend more often to query the data "cooked" into the Navonics chart in terms of finding out details on a given buoy or other navigation related object. By the way, some of the apps out there actually have higher definition charts compared to, say, Navionics Gold cards.
Another thing worth mentioning is that physical Navionics SD and CF cards are not locked to just a particular Android or iOS app. As another poster mentioned, the charts on the card aren't really "downloaded" to a chart plotter, the plotter just reads the card contents on demand; and many chart plotter models may be compatible with a given card. Even better, you can use Windows PC software like Navionics NavPlanner 2 (Google that) to read and cache to the hard drive all the contents of the Navionics cards that have come out in the last 2 years. So in some ways, the Navionics cards have more flexibility than mobile app + chart purchases. Depends on your needs and the price points; email [email protected] if you have any questions about Navionics cards or downloadable charts.
I can only zoom to 50 foot with Premium East here on Ky Lake. Is this a map scale issue at my location? I have HDS.
