Lowrance Elite-4x DSI/Powerdrive V2

Just ordered one off of Bass Pro for $200, gonna put it up front on my MN Powerdrive v2. Was wondering if any of you guys had used one yet? I am stuck over here in Afghanistan for another week or so, so i havent seen them in person and cant find much for reviews on these puppies. But, for a DSI I couldnt pass it up.

Also, I was reading somewhere about cutting the transducer cable, drilling a hole in the trolling motor shaft, and running the cable up the shaft, then splicing it back together. Anyone ever tried this? It seems there is no other "clean" way to install them without the cable dangling around, since you cant ziptie it to the shaft.

I don't think it would be a good idea to cut & splice the Transducer cable.

I appreciate it, but I have read just about every article/post I could find about this particular problem, including the one above, and they all end in the same way. I dont feel comfortable letting the transducer cable hang freely with not really being secured to anything. I am a pretty mechanical person and I dont see why you wouldnt be able to route the cable through the shaft of the trolling motor...granted there is enough space.

As for cutting the transducer cable...it is VERY possible to cut and splice shielded wire. When you splice it back together...heat shrink each individual wire, wrap the wires in aluminum foil (for the shield), then a bigger size heat shrink to keep it all water tight.
