Default Question for Canepole or Anybody About Interference

I'm wondering if the digital maximizer on a Minn-Kota Maxxum 24 volt will help eliminate Interference with my sonar unit. I read the thread about the possibility of picking up interference from the trolling motor and was wondering if the digital maximizer would help or not.

The maximizer is causing some of your interference, you need to ground it out to get rid of it.

Is your sonar powered from the start battery? If so, fire it all up at home and see if the noise is on the screen when on/off the TM. If noise shows up on the screen, scratch a point on the TM housing to make contact with a 18ga wire and run that wire temporary to the negative side of the start battery. This is a good start. If you don't have 18, use whatever you have available to see if the noise clears.

Before you do the above, try tying the negative of the tm battery to the negative of the start battery since this is a speed coil TM. Easy to check. Be sure it IS the negative of the TM. If not, you will see sparkles.

Thanks, I read where the motor housing could cause interference. I was just wondering if the digital maximizer would not cause as much interference.

MAXimizer is a source of noise (pwm) in itself.
