What sort of sonar are you wanting: single beam 2D (conventional) sonar, dual beam 2D sonar, Down Imaging sonar?

good question...would like as much as possible and stay in price range..di would be nice need to see the brush piles and save the wp...hdi would be nice but it may get me out of price range...complete novis when it comes to all this...can save wps??/lol if I stay with in the 5" screen can't I get almost all except the SI features? and be 600.00 or a little less??? I will go over buget knowing that if I don't maybe disapointed not spending a little more to get what I need....I don't just crappie fish...fish alot in winter for small mouth and spots....deep structure.

I just bought the Lowrance Elite 5 DSI from Reedsoutdoors.com for $526 shipping included and when I get the $100 Lowrance rebate back, that's $426 for a nice sonar with GPS. You have to buy the trolling motor mount seperate, but I think it's around $30

I bought an Elite 5DSI myself, and if I had it to do all over again, I would get the 597 just because it still has the sonar which I like when fishing vertical. Don't get me wrong I like my elite 5 but its just hard to use and comprehend sitting still.
