    Default 798 Hd or not?

Just bought a HB 798 that does not have the hd designation. After reading on here and trying to become more edumacated I am wondering if I should get the hd unit instead. I am worried about buying another unit in the future and not being able to have the units communicate? Or will I via interlink? Can someone esplain?

If you are concerned about having this unit communicate with a future unit: I would return it and get the 798ci HD Si model as it has an Ethernet connection. An Ethernet connection allows for large amounts of data to be transferred very quickly. Right now you can share sonar data, GPS and water temperature between units as well as waypoints. With the accessories we are releasing this year and in the future this will only expand the capabilities of an Ethernet capable unit. I think that we have all seen the shift towards a whole integrated system of sonar-GPS units and accessories in the past few years. I do not suspect that this will change anytime soon and so recommend going with an Ethernet capable unit. When my Wife lets me buy a new PC I don’t buy what I need to just get by with for today; I buy what I think I will need for the next five years or so (pocketbook willing). I suggest you do the same if you want to connect this unit to another unit.

Greg has very good info on the capability of ethernet (present and future)..

Right now HB still offers the Interlink setup that will work with your 798ci SI combo...(non HD-non ethernet)..

I feel that the future of Ethernet connection is the way of the future... So I would not be surprised if the Interlink getting eventually phased out....

It would probably be wise to return the unit if you can and look toward the 798ci HD SI Combo (that is ethernet capable)...

You guys reinforced what I was thinking after doing more research. Guess the one I have goes back and trade for HD. Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll need your help again.
