Default HB 597 CI DI Interference problems

Good Morning, I'm trying to help out my friends father that has the above locator on the bow of a newer G3. We are getting all kinds of erratic depth readings. I've read quite a few threads on this same problem. I haven't called HB yet, but was wanting to see if anyone has come up with a solution yet. We played around with it yesterday, however it was out of water. It would start like normal at 1.5 ft then all of a sudden jump to over 1000 ft. We originally thought it was the TM, which is a MK Maxxum. We unplugged it from the plug in receptacle, but had the same issue. We unhooked the units power supply and wired it to a seperate battery and still got the same readings. We did find out the boat motor tilt switch had a hot wire on, so we are wondering if maybe that would be causing the issue? Also, is there a way to tell what update its currently on the unit as he bought this unit last spring and it has not been updated yet. Any help or pointers would be greatly apreciated. Thanks!

I doubt if it has anything to do with your particular problem, but I found I was getting interference from my other Eagle depthfinder at the back of the boat. Turned it off and the problem went away. Seems like I remember some advice about adjusting surface noise, or clutter to fix the eratic depth readings, can't remember.

You may want to check that you are on the current firmware. That was a problem about a year ago, I downloaded the update and it fixed the problem. Not sure that is it, but worth checking out.

Sounds like the software in your friend’s Father’s unit needs to be updated CaptianT16. Follow the instructions on this video to check which software version you have now (other videos will walk you through how to register, download and update the unit).

Greg, thank you so much for the help. We are going to help him do this in the next few days. What size of disk do you recommend to do just the updates? Thank you all again for your help!

You can disregard my previous question. I did a search and was able to come up with the answer. Thanks again!

In case others read this post:
The software update files are not all that large. So even a 1GB sized SD memory card is larger than what you really need. Presently it is getting hard to find even a 2GB sized memory card in stores, so just about any sized SD (or SDHC) memory card you can find now-a-days will be large enough to get the job done.
