Default Lowrance HDS7 with structure scan

I am looking for help with my new HDS. I installed it last week and have had it out 1 time. I installed the structure scan transducer that came with the unit and I noticed the sonar screen does not work. The side imaging screen works, however there looks to be a little "noise in the water column. Do I have to also install the transducer that came with the HDS for the sonar to work? Also, will this unit "down image"? Thanks for any help you can give.

The LSS1 bundle does side/down scan only. You will need the additional 2d transducer.

The only thing I could find when I was messing around with it the other day was SI. If I could find DI on it, I dont think I would worry about having sonar. What is the down imaging screen called? Side imaging is called "structure". Keep in mind, I am very new to this , so if I am asking stupid questions , that is why.

I know it's easier to ask but,,,, reading the manual might help ya. When you select structure scan,, it shows screen slection. Left & right, left only, right only, & down. Select which sceen picture you want. <*)}}}><

You really are going to need the broadband Transducer, and it needs to be within around 6 inches from lss1 ducer, then plugs into back of HDS7. The best way I found to learn the 7 is get in boat with book and start through it. I even brought mine in house and plugged it into a jump start system. To answer your question on downscan, hit pages, then go to structure, scroll down to downscan, chart, push enter. This will put 3 screens on face of unit. The side scan will have a pink outline around it, where you can adjust color etc. To adjust any of the other charts press pages and hold couple of seconds to change red outline to that view, then you can control adjustments on it.

Thanks, Steve. I will plan on installing the transducer that came with the HDS then. Also, when I was using the unit on Saturday, I noticed a good bit of noise in the water column. I was in about 30ft of water. Its the first time I turned it on. I was thinking it may have had something to do with the settings but, not sure.

Just be sure the 2d ducer is slightly above the ss, you want nothing in the view of the ss.
