    Default portable fish finders

Anybody use any of the hand held units? they dont seem to go deeper then 100 feet. are they powerful enough? I seen a lowrance and a hummingbird that take D batteries have 2 year warranties also [they arent hand held but they are portable]. Are they worth the investment to use on a kayak?

I use the HB PiranhaMax 160 PT. It's a nice set-up with carrying case, 7ah rechargable battery (although you only need to charge it once a year) and suction cup transducer. It's very good at showing depth, structure, fish and water temp. Dual beam of 20- and 60-degrees. No fancy bells or whistles but it does well what it does. Amazon.com or BPS for $130.

The carrying case might be larger than you want to have on a kayak (the head mounts on a base in the carrying case which also holds the battery; so it's not like you can take the head out and mount it on a RAM).

I thought that we had some kayak versions of some of the smaller lower cost units but I cannot seem to find them know. We do have the kayak inside-the-hull mounting kist for the DualBeam and Down Imaging transducers/units though:
