    Default Humminbird 383/798 swap

I have a 383 color sonar/GPS mounted on the dash and a newly installed 798ci SI HD on the bow. the mounts seem to be the same and the connectors are in the same location. I'm only using the power and the sonar cables. My question is can I put the 798 on the 383 dash mount and use the GPS and maybe the standard sonar. The reason I ask is the maps in the 798 are better than on the 383. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Gene, I don't have an answer for your Hummingbird question. Sounds like you have nice electronics - quit them errends and slide that rig in the water.

Young, I plan to hit the water on monday. Today I'm at my son in law's send off party. He is deploying to Afganistan on the 3rd of Feb. Tomorrow I have a captian's meeting at Manresa. So look out Monday. If things work out I hope to hit them a few times.

Yes you can PawPaw. Just set the Transducer Select menu in the 798ci HD Si unit to the DualBeam setting and you are good to go. You can even connect your 383 up to the 798’s mount and use it as is.

Thank you Greg. I had gotten an almost sure answer from the humminbird forum today also. That allows me to simplify my set up and only use one head unit and remember only one set of directions.
