At this point in time why does it matter...

I have down, side, and 2d imaging, and they all have their advantages. I would have to say, not that I have those on my big boat, its very hard to take my small boat to places that I cant get my big boat and fish those areas. I dont even fish areas I was raised fishing because I dont have the graphs on my small boat. I feel like now that I have seen the effectiveness of these graphs, I cant catch a fish without em!

I mark spots on dry lake bottoms in late winter then fish when water rises . If I were to fish multiple lakes or tournament fish then the best would not be enough .Its kind of like a golfer that only plays one coarse . He competes there well because of past experiences, put him two towns over on narrow, hilly coarse and he plays 8-10 strokes higher . There were tournaments won with flashers and folks thought technology was going to ruin the sport . You have to decide are you going to compete with the fish or other fishermen . You get what you pay for no doubt . Question is what are you trying to get ?Have fished with some gurus that are masters with electronics and with some that bought them last year that can't mark a waypoint .So buy the best you can afford that makes you happy .ps. just never out grow this Attachment 176783:biggrin
I do not like dedicated DI units, because they are less informative than SI, and this is just a mixture of the left and right part signals of wide flat beam - stronger left/right signals kill weaker right/left signals, this is why a bottom looks always much brighter and there is no any shadows on the bottom in DI mode. DI on SI units even worse case – complete mixture of the left and right sides:

I would do slight correction of the SI units software, and show SI sides in convenient DI mode. It would be the same water column with keeping all details on the bottom and in water column related to the left and right sides separately. It would be a real true DI view, even better than in LSS, because its DI is a mixture of the left and right part signals of 60 deg. flat beam as well.

Why can't I get this thread as read??? The last post always is the same, but says today's date. Hung up somewhere
I noticed the same. Just let it go – one more example. The screenshot was taken from here:
SONDEUR / GPS COULEUR HUMMINBIRD SIDE IMAGING FF1199
I would prefer to have that software option in my SI unit.

I like the SI because it allows me to look at a lot more structure compared to DI or regular sonar. It's a great plus at a new lake.
Before my SI, I was ready to sell my boat. Now I'm adding thousands of equipment to it and I have a hobby I thoroughly enjoy.
