    Default Help wirh electronis

First I would to say hello to all . I just joined Crappie.com.
I am in the process of upgrading my electronics. I am pinching those pennies for a 1198 si at the dash. I almost bought an 998 this week but I really want that 1198 so I held off. Is there a lot of difference in the 898, 998, 1198 as for clarity?
I do alot of crappie fishing but I also do a lot of bass fishing. My first question is would I need to get a Y cable and a 2nd transducer for high speed or should I just depend on my old Lowrance 135 in the dash for my high speed. Second question what would the ideal unit up front be? 898, 998, or SI or do I need to go with the new DI models: 858, 958, 1158. I would like to have at least a 7" screen, the old eyes are not what they used to be if you know what I mean. I do tight lines and trolling for crappie. Any help guys?

Hiddy from the Pumphouse. Git a biggun. I use a flasher running. It got bright red line pointing to the numbers (depth of the water). Not fancy, just effective. I trust it. It ain't digital either.

I dont think you would find much difference in clarity of the units...

I have heard that the 798 screen seems to be brighter ... But I think even the 1198 for 2012 is supposed to be brighter than the older ones...

There are several who have been able to get satisfactory high speed results from the stock xducer...placement in "clean" constant water ( with no bubbles ) is key...

Your choice for a model to put up front would depend on your style of fishing...
2d DI or SI... Which technology would be most advantageous for your style ...??

Matching the technology (or combinations of technology) to your style will help in narrowing down the field of choices...
