down imaging depthfinders

Can i put a down imaging transducer inside the hull of my bass boat?

I got the HB 788 HD CI DI and the tranducer is inside the hull work great but if you get a side image the tranducer will not work inside the hull I put the two way switch on my fish finder(a switch where you can use 2 tranducer on one fish finder) and put a tranducer on the transon to to compare image could tell much different in the image .

Thank for all the help I'm new to the down imaging and the GPS depth finders, from what I have herd about the HB 597ci HD DI combo I like it I have also been looking at the HB 385ci DI combo I just don't know if I would be happy with the smaller screen. Has anyone tried the HB 385?
