Default Minn Kota PD V2 with I-pilot??

I'm considering upgrading to a Minn Kota PD V2 w/ I-pilot and wanted to ask anyone who has one a few questions. I noticed that there is an option to get the universal sonar along with the I-pilot. Does anyone have this feature? Is it worth the extra $100 or so? I just have a basic DF but one day might want to upgrade to something with down imaging, would it work with the universal sonar feature or would I have to mount it seperately? Would the universal sonar cut down on interference issues? Or would I be just as well off with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor externally? Any help would be appreciated. I've read through alot of the other threads and know that ya'll can give some good advice.

Oh yeah, I know the PD V2 only comes with the hand control. Would like to have both the foot and hand control, but just can't afford the terrova. Upgrading to the PD V2 is gonna be a hard sale to the little lady as it is. Does anyone with just the hand control have any problems with it?

Ive got one and love it. I never found a need for the foot control. That I Pilot is the best thing since Toilet Paper.

Currently, the universal sonar transducers on Minn Kota motors do not support Down Imaging.

I use my Terrova's US2 transducer constantly with my Humminbird 858c. It provides excellent results. You can see some of them in these articles, the second of which focuses on crappies:

Using Humminbird sonar to stay with roving late summer crappies
