    Chuck,
    I believe that he means to keep a copy of the software update file so that you can go back to it if you are having problems with the latest software update. All you have to do is save the software update file in your computer somewhere. I save copies of these files in separate folders in my computer.

    Just an FYI: only have one software update file on the SD memory card at a time or you could have problems with the software update!

    I keep 5 separate SD cards with my unit at all times...

    1 with current version of software
    1 with previous version of software
    1 with all backed up waypoints from my unit
    1 with saved snapshots and recordings
    1 blank for today's snapshots and recordings

    SD cards are cheap...
