I had a PD but now have the Terrova. I longline, tightline, jig brush piles, bass fish, striper fish - the Terrova is more versatile with the footpedal and Ipilot combination. The deploy system on the Terrova is alot better than the PD. Also,Terrova seems to be a little more durable and has a faster steering response.
Terrova was way too much for my 14 foot Jon. Tried one out. Sometimes go big is not good. Foot pedal took up half the boat.
The HB ducer wire seems to fit in the groove but not Lowrance brand from what I've read on different forums. You could mount the ducer on the transom and run the wire up to the front, you'll be ahead of the picture so to speak, but not blind. this would eliminate the potential for getting all wrapped up, which is what I've done on a temporary basis to see if I like it. You can leave the ducer on the TM and use the spot lock, you just have keep an eye on the wire and if the TM has spun around too much.
Well I am in the same boat as Fishorhunt. I had decided on the 12v terrarova I-Pilot for the reasons listed, but now I am concerned about the interference some are having between the TM and the DF. I have a HB525 on the front and a 300 series color GPS/combo on the transom. I don't want to end up not being able to use the DF when the TM is running. Has MK said anything about this problem or is it not that prevalent? I can't afford to spend $1200 and find out I can't use it half the time.
One thing to make sure of is that you get the new 2012 model which has more and improved features.

ben reading about the minkota and going to wait till the new 2012 modles come out .have a auto pilot but want newer motor . i will be reading all TM reports till the money gits right .seams like the Terrova is #1 right now .wil be moving it from pontoon to bass boat if i don`t git the outo pilot to work right .
SeaRay, suggest you contact HB customer service or Hummingbird Greg in the Electronics forum. Lots of people discuss the interference and HB Greg might be able to point you in the right direction to solve your problems. I had my lowrance and a cuda ducers mounted on the TM motor, and did not notice any interference to speak of, my main concern is the ducer wire getting damaged from using the anchor spot lock which is why I moved the ducer to the back of the boat to see if i liked this way. The picture is good on my forward FF now, it was good before, I'm just saving my ducer wire I think, but we'll see in the future.
Cabelas did have the Terrova 55lb 48" shaft for $550 a while back, and that's what I bought, then found a new Ipilot for $300, so I'm set now.
I have the riptide V2 with the auto pilot and it does the job just fine. Mine is 70lb and where I used to loose ground with my previous TM but this one has enough power to hold place in a 20mph wind that I can't fish in. My pedal is like the one DonG posted a link to, and it does OK but it's kinda crowded. AP does very well but the wind blows it off course and needs small corrections. Works extra good when it just barely moves down a shoreline while in search mode. Deploy is a bit of a pain but it's easier since I put armor all on the shaft. I haven't used the terrova so I can't speak of those. For all of my style of fishing the V2 has satisfied me. A couple of guides I spoke with recommended the riptide cuz the boatds are epoxy sealed and had given them excellent service for many years, and they use theirs as much or more than mine sits in the grudge. Just my 2 cents.
I have the PD 70lb thrust 24v on a 16ft deep v and couldn't be happier with it....I dont think you could go to wronge w/either one as long as it's got the I-pilot....and two the universal sonar is a MUST if your gonna put a graph on it....three, the minnkota quick release is a nice option also, my boat stays out side but I store my TM in the garage, easy to mount and easy to use ......
I have the PD now and kinda wish I had the Terr. One thing about the foot pedal--i didn't think I would like using the remote much but I was wrong. I have hardly used the foot pedal and find myself using the remote even when I am up front with the foot pedal (I just have the co-pilot)
