    Default hb 778c

i am having trouble getting my fish finder dialed in. in the shallow water it will loose the bottom and in the deeper water i have a hard time reading it. it is probably just me not knowing what to look for but any tips on the settings or how to read the graph would be helpful.

Here's a few screen shots from my 778C. I no longer have it, so I can't help you too much with settings. What exactly do you mean by losing bottom, the depth reading isn't correct, or the bottom doesn't show on the screen? How about lose bottom at deeper water, same thing? Can you try out your unit on another boat to see if it's your transducer? Does yours show any screen shots like mine?

If sentive is turn up thenmake sure transducer is pointed corect, clean transducer, still a problem ,it is more likely transducer is weak needing replace. Like shellback said if possible put on some one else boat.

i lose the bottom in <5ft of water it will read the depth incorrectly until i get out in deeper water. i have never gotten the arches to show up like the third picture. i have played with the settings with no success. i just got this unit in the spring and have the puck mounted on the trolling motor so maybe that is part of the problem

mounting to tm should not be an issue. arches show up better with a faster stroll speed. check your cable for cuts.

So are the depth reading off at all times, or just when the trolling motor is running? If only when the T/M is running, it could be electrical interference. How about the lake bottom, is it weedy where you lose bottom? When I got into shallow weeds, it always threw my depth reading off. That can't be helped.

    endo,
What is the exact model name of your 778c unit? We have had several versions of the 778 unit and knowing which one you have may help us troubleshoot the problem you are seeing.

Is the software in your 788 unit up to date?

Getting fish to show with an arch off of a trolling motor transducer will require you to either speed the boat up or slow the display update speed (Chart Speed) down. Selecting to show the wider 83kHz sonar will help with this as will setting the SwitchFire menu to the Max Mode setting (if you 788 unit has this option).

778c is the only model description i see. last i checked the unit is up to date but it has been a month or so since i have checked. i can try the max mode next time out but if these weather systems keep hitting on the weekends i am not sure when i will get out again. ihave a 5 speed trolling motor and usually run it on 1 or 2 while fishing what setting do you suggest for the fish finder.

Endo...It may help Greg if you could provide the serial # from the back of the unit....
