looks like a brush pile to me...............
Bigjoe ... I'm thinking it might be a little of both (brush & fish). It ain't ALL fish, unless it's a wad of Gars having a little tussle Rofl
While the default settings are useful, in the beginning ... being able to tweak it to perform to your liking, is significantly more useful. If you think you've messed it up to where you can't figure out WHAT it's showing, you can always put it back to the default settings & run it on auto.

Lol! Thanks guys! I was leaning toward brush pile but just wasnt sure cause i couldnt find it again. I should have marked a waypoint...
I just got an Elite 5 DSI today at Cabelas....rang up at $245.00.....I told them i think there is a mistake and the guy said there is...but its Cabelas mistake and they let me have at that price. Very happy to say the least. So I plan to mount it to my Minn Kota TM and run in up front with my 2d unit also. I used the money I saved and bought the Minn Kota Power drive V2 upgrade to I-Pilot kit....I thought it was a good day.
I read through the posts but could not see some basic advanced set up info and what has generally been working for most of you....if it is there I missed it and my bad...
Dang KAG ... you got your unit for about half of what I got mine for ... good job :highfive
No, there's not a lot of "setup" info in this thread, yet. That's partly why it's here !! I'm a newbie with DI, GPS, and all the rest of the bells/whistles of any unit that's more recent than a Eagle 2d monochrome Rofl ... so I'm looking for the same info !! We're working our way along, though ... and with now knowing what shape & pattern the ping cone of a DI is, and having an idea of what width the coverage area is (in Xft of water), is going to be big help in understanding where the things on the screen are (in relation to the oval slice shape of the cone).
ANYthing you discover about the unit, any questions you have about it, your experiences with it, etc. .... this is the thread to put it on !! The more input we have on it, the better we're going to be able to maximize the use of the functions it has.

I ordered a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI training DVD, once I get it and watch it I will pass on any tips they offer on this.
There is not a lot of setup available on the unit. You can set contrast, color, surface clarity, depth, and that's about it.
Actually, you have to add in all the GPS stuff, water temp/speed/depth overlay choice & size, and all the other stuff that's connected to it. But, yeah ... as far as the depthfinder aspect of the unit, you're somewhat limited in what you need to know in setting it up. Dozens of possible tweaks to each screen & menu makes it a little more complicated than the old 2d style units that some of us have been using for the last few decades.
It sure ain't SI, and it ain't even close to the HDS units ... but it's sure a far cry from what some of us are used to Rofl
