    Default 788ci hd di or 798ci hd si to be mounted as a portable


    I need to setup a new portable unit. The transducer will be suction cup mounted. Not sure about SI with this type mount. Anyone use this type unit? Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    No experience with suction cup but i dont see see were there would be any problem.the main issue,i think would be how your wanting to use the unit.the 788 has the dedicated down looking crystal.the 798 uses the side looking crystals.you proberly need to a little resurch before you decide.as far as the transducer gos ,ive got mine mounted on bass boat.i dont see were it has to be all that time and level.i cant keep my boat level all of the .i have no problems

    First get the 798 so you have side imaging,best brush pile & crappie finder there is. Never used a suction type but I had my 997 portable so I could transfer between 2 boats, also used it ice fishing a few times. I used this clamp on the transom one. There are other models could be used on canoes or pontoons.

    i agree withjaxsprat on the si part, but thats just me only you no what kind of fishing and what needs you have.i have an 597 hd/di. i hardly evey use the di any more just the traditional 2d. i only use di when im leaving a brush pile .ill go over it with di and take a picture just cause it looks kindof kool. only you no what you need. good luck

    Just be advised that it is imperative that the xducer is pointing in the correct direction with the boats path

    ...these SI transducers (and the new dedicated crystal DI units) are designed to operate in a "straight line running parallel to the boat's path"...
