    Default hbird vs lowrance dsi

Anybody used one of these. How well do they work with the transducer hooked to the trolling motor ? Anybody have a problem. Have heard that they work on transom much better . Thanks for any help or information.

One first has to understand the shape of the DI sonar beam vs. a conventional 2/d sonar beam....

The 2/d sonar beam is a cone shape pointing downward so turning the TM has little effect on what is displayed on the screen....

Conversely, the DI sonar beam shape is a thin slice emanating down and out to the sides 90 degrees from the Xducer...
Try to picture a Chinese folding fan opened up pointing down from the Xducer....

This sonar beam shape is designed to operate in a straight line running parallel to the boats path... Which is why you have heard that the transom mount works better...

There are several that still effectively use this sonar technology attached to the TM... One just has to realize that turning the TM with a DI (or SI) Xducer attached can cause a "skewing" effect of the screen image....
