I guess I didn't study this thing very much, but I'm going back to my old 480.

EJL I am considering purchasing a Elite 5 DSI with gps. What is it you don't like about yours? If you don't want to post on here just shoot me a PM. I would like to get all the feed back I can before this weekend. I AM MAKING A PURCHASE THIS WEEKEND of something. I wish I could justify one of the HDS 8 or 10's but when I only get on the water about 3 times a year that is hard to justify a $2000-$3000 unit.
The one feature that I hope is as good as they advertise is the scroll back and mark a waypoint feature. I don't know how many times I go over a brush pile and go back to find and mark it and I swear it floated away. I can spend another hour trying to find something I went over 30 seconds ago.

I have an Elite 5 with GPS and I like it. The DS I think is very poor and don't do much for the money. It don't show fish and I'm not sure of the structure. I have Tthe elite 5 gps on the back and turn it so I can watch it. What I see on the elite 5 DS don't come close to what I see on the other one. I'm trolling a straight line so there ought to be some picture at least close to each other, but there not. I put my 480 fish finder back on the trolling motor this afternoon.

where do you have the DS ducer mounted, on the TM or transom? If mounted on the TM, could the TM movement or vibrations be a cause of the bad picture ?

Might check out the HB 597ci HD DI.
I researched fishfinder/GPS combos for about a month this spring...I think it has the best features for it's price range, IMO. The DI is nice for looking at structure...then you can use the 2d to help locate the fish.
Just thought I'd throw that out there since you said you were lookin.
If you go to Bass Pro or Cabelas, you can check out the reviews for each item and see what the good and bad is on most models/brands.

Thats what I should of look at. I remounted the mark480 and now I have two on tm. I will try them Sunday.
