Two questions on i-pilot

1) Trying to figure out if the additional track locations will be worth it on the 2012 i-pilot models. Does the unit save the last track info if the unit is powered down? If I'm on a trip and unplug the trolling moter is the info lost or saved until written over?

2) How fast can I go over a path and record the track and still retain the info? Can I use the outboard to cruise along the path and record the track? I'm not sure how often it samples the location.

The Ipilot records track points. Track points are relative to position, not time (speed). So, any speed in theory should work. However, I found if you go too slow when recording a track, the unit becomes somewhat erratic (below .5mph) when you use trackback .

I got the 3 track unit. Keeps me busy trying to remember what I did last time out.

I use my big motor when recording sometimes. Saves electricity.

This is the cat's meow with these things, leave it up in the stowed position and cruise along as fast as you can find your track and it'll replay it. I love it for following the river bed in my reservoir. Not sure about if the unit should save the recorded paths regardless of if it is un-plugged or not... I don't believe it does as I never see anything stored in mine the next time I go out after unplugging it for charging at home. Good questions. Ask the same on the sticky here, should get you a definative answer.

It will save all the last recorded path in A,B, or C memory location, depending on what is selected. Power down does not erase the recordings. You can record over existing tracks by rerecording to the memory location that you select.

I use my large motor move the boat to record on occasion. I only recorded at idle speed which is about 3mph and I use the TM dropped in the water to steer the boat. Jeff White showed me how to do this stuff with the TM. Works good.
