Default Finding shad using a Humminbird PiranhaMAX 170 ?

i know the 170 is just an entry level finder and i mainly use just for being able to see the water depth, temp, and bottom contour.

but i was wondering if you would be able to see schools of shad on this thing? that seems to be the key for success in the fall.

    any help appreciated.

    thanks -- Brad

Not familiar with that particular model, but if everything is adjusted right they should show up. I'm not sure if that model has a fish ID feature where it shows the fish as fish symbols, if so it will be easier to see shad and other baitfish by switching off that mode. The baitfish should show up like a cloud. Good Luck.
