Was talking fishing with a couple of guys an we got on the subject of nicks an scratches on your transducer.....was wondering if you smooth them out with fine steel wool if it help with the recepition of the transducer or do the nicks an scratches that you get on them really hurt them at all ??? Anyone got any thoughts on if it has a effect or not ???

Unless they are very deep/big I don't think they hurt anything at all.

    Lightbulb Dish Soap

I have found the old trick of a little dish soap, just a touch on your finger and smear it on the duc'er just before getting it in water, breakes surface tension and doesn't let bubbles form on it. Scratches are where the bubbles would / will form and they will interfear with operation / calibration / effeciency. if you forget or don't know to / use this trick, it will usually clear itself up as soon as you get up any reasonable speed to clear the bubbles naturally. any deeper scratches could hold a bubble until a higher speed clears it.
I have on previous "beater" boats needed this, because I tended to use the sound of transducer on gravel act as depth alarmDoh I have had td's so badly gouged up its a wonder they worked at all. As long as the case isn't cracked and the insides don't get wet and you can keep bubbles off they will work great!!!
