I hate to barge into this thread, but it relates to a question I have. I have 998c SI on the console and a 788c DI on the bow which I have just recently connected via Ethernet. I had the 788 some time before installing the 998 and already had collected a good number of waypoints on it. Yesterday, when trying out my new 998 I marked a waypoint on it which was labed waypoint #001. Am I going to need to re-number all the waypoints already on the 788 or simply re-number each waypoint now made on the 998...or is it a way that the two units correct that themselves in their sharing? I hope this question makes sense.

That’s a good question kyfishman. I don’t think that you will need to renumber any waypoints though. The 788ci HD DI unit does not store the waypoint when it is marked by the 998c Si unit – it just can access the waypoint data and show it on its own screen with green circle around it (Ethernet shared waypoints will have a green circle around the waypoint icon).
This works the same for a waypoint marked on the 788ci HD DI unit showing up on the 998c Si unit.

Kyfishman, I checked today and you will end up with two waypoints with the same number. Isn't a problem for the units but might be a problem when you use the goto command. I suspect the units have a protocall which may involve which waypoint is listed first on the unit. I don't think it will be a problem for me. I am old enough that I can't remember which number goes to which waypoint so I just cursor to them and punch goto. Don't really care if two waypoints have the same name. Hope this helps and good luck with your units. I think you will like it. TS

Thanks Greg and Trapshooter for the information. I'm gonna try it out tomorrow afternoon on Lake Barkley and see what happens.
