I think he'll have to import them into Humminbird PC first so that the file can be converted into a .hwr format.....
Then also in HB PC put the data on an SD card so that the unit can read the .hwr format....

I gave a buddy a gpx file of waypoints to put on his new 597ci DI Combo. I thought it would just upload the point file from the SD card. He said it did not do it automatically.
What needs to be done to get the points on his 597? Should it be automatic like the 898?
Thanks,

+1 to what Rickie said.
The *.GPX file format is more of a universal file format. It is what our HumminbirdPC program uses and many other programs can use as well. the unit uses our own *.HWR file format. By using the HumminbirdPC program it will convert the file to the *.HWR file format and build the correct file structure on the SD memory card.

Thanks fellas.. That makes sense. I just emailed him the gpx file and he copied it straight to the SD card. I forgot that you had to load it from humminbirdpc to the card. That makes perfect sense. I will tell him.. Thanks!
