    Default HB 898 question

Recently installed an 898 and a 596 on my boat. Read through the manuals and took the boat out to play with the units and set them up. It was then that I ran into a question that I need an answer to. In the manual it says there are 2 frequencies that the side imaging can be ran at...either 455khz for deeper water or wider field of view or 800khz for more detail. While playing with my 898 i noticed my 2 frequency options are 455khz and 262khz...no 800 like the manual says. The 262 is basically useless..no detail to speak of. Does anyone have any idea why my unit would not have the 800khz option? Do I need an update? My unit is new..just recently bought. The manual says the 800khz gives the best detail and touts that fact more than once, so I'm going to feel cheated if I can't get that frequency on my unit. Has anyone else had this issue? Humminbird Greg..if you read this would you please find out what's going on here and post a reply? If I don't hear something back on here I'll call HB support and see what their remedy is. Thanks

That's odd, but don't get too concerned, they'll get you fixed up. You should have 455-800 for SI/DI and 200/83 for 2D. I'd check the software version on the unit as even though it's new, it could have been on the shelf for a couple months and might need an update. This will be corrected, and you'll have the correct freq, no worries. There's probably a way to reset the unit also, maybe do a search, or someone will post.

Greg and others will get you set up.

You are correct on all the numbers for SI and 2D Duncan. I will check the software version tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Kenny, Mike is right..I also have a new 898 & it has both 455 & 800...I think my latest update is 5.4 but I know that 5.5 is available but shouldn't be required to get the 800 KHz..On what page in the manual did you see the 262 KHZ?

Kenny, I know you have probably tried this but anyway:::

Go to Sonar Menu Tab (make sure you are in the advanced mode)
Second line down is Side View Frequency.. 455KHz is the factory default setting but this is where you can change 455Khz to 800KHz.

I thought I would mention this just in case you haven't tried this.....

    Good luck

Don, the manual says I should have the 455 and 800 but in the side view frequency options menu on the unit the two choices are 455 and 262...I don't have any idea why!

I've never heard of it before either..which is why I am baffled. I sent HB an email to tech support last night. And I'll call sometime next week. I'll post any feedback. Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement.

    Kenny,
Sorry but had a doctor appointment Friday and another busy weekend. Classes this morning so I’m only getting to check this forum during lunch.

Try this: go to the Sonar menu tab and look for the Transducer Select menu setting. Make sure that it is on the Hi-Def Sidescan setting. It sounds like it is on the Sidescan setting which is for using the original Si transducer that had the 455/262kHz Si sonar.

Greg, I did as you instructed and that was the problem. I had selected "sidescan" not knowing what "hi def sidescan" was for. It works perfectly now. Thank you VERY much for your help!
