There are people who still use them. There is one on eBay right now with two bids at about $22.

I was rooting around in the shed out back and came across this relic, it's the old ring style flasher type, don't know if it works, is it worth messing with or should i just mail it to the Smithsonian?
Hey, catchin' fish is easy, finding thems the hard part.

Now there’s an oldie…
Some diehard flasher fisherman out there may buy it from you. Try listing it on eBay and see what you can get for it.
Oh that's a fairly modern one. I have an old Heathkit flasher unit in near mint condition. Still works. It's a portable unit in a nice metal case and runs on two six volt batteries. Real high tech back in the those days.
WOW! Heathkit? that's got to be ancient! do you use it?
By the way, how do you use this old Hummingbird Super Thirty II ? anyone remember?

Wow is right and it works too!
Is that a Heathkit from Heathkit or one of the ones that Allied Sports assembled?
[Allied Sports later turned into Humminbird.]
Super Thirty II is used the same way other flasher units are: turn it on and up until you just start to see the second echo (return) of the bottom of the lake (example: in 23 feet of water you should get a second return at 46 feet). Adjust the Noise Reject control as needed and adjust to either the 30 or 60 foot depth scale.
I just looked and I have a pdf file of the operations manual. E-mail me and ask for this if interested.

Hey Greg, thanks for the offer, i googled itand found the manual, thanks again. By the way, since i don't have anything else to use, i think i'll play around with it, at least use it for a depth finder, guess it will run off of a lawnmower battery, right?

totem, i forget what mine is on my old bass boat but it's a hummingbird flasher. the boat is a '76 so i'm guessing the flasher is too since i bought it as a package. i found lots and lots of fish with that thing. i haven't had the boat in the water in 30 years. it's, the boat, a classic by now.
and i have a lowrance "green box" flasher and another that's in a metal box like the lowrance that says international fish spotter on it. then the old pflueger "fish finder." still in the box.
Sounds like you could open your own museum! LOL, I'm gonna fiddle around with it and see how it does, i was reading the "wife bought me a 597ci HD DI thread in the electronics section of this board, man that thing does everything but reach out and put the hook in the fish's mouth ! like to have one of those, the FF would cost more than my boat and trailer ! LOL

I still use my Low version Silent 60. I've been looking at that thing forever, it's like comfort food. I had an X-15mt on the console which I've replaced with a HDS-8 with
SS1. I was going to move the x-15 to the TM but decided I still like that old flasher. I've found a ton of structure and caught a ton of fish with that thing. Sure the new units will show you exactly what is down there but does it really matter? Not really. You'll see humps, drop offs, brush and fish just like the other units but you have to inturpit what it is you're looking at since it can't draw a pic.
Like HB Greg says, turn the power up just enough to get a 2nd bottom reading (I call it an echo) If you are in 10 fow keep turning it until you see another return at 20 fow.
Fish will show up as faint blips in the first return (0'-10')
A friend of mine says anything more than a flasher on the bow is information overload. LOL
