Default Looking to buy a fish finder just need the importance of features

I was looking to buy a new one. I like the ones that show the actual bottom and structures that are they're. But don't what they are called I've always just went to wallet world and bought the cheapest thing they had. But since I'll be taking my family I would like something that will show me more of what I'm looking at since I can't see down there physically. Would kind of like the route plotting option if possible. Thanks in advance

I jst got a new Hummingbird Piranha Max 150 It's not fancy by far. Easy to operate. The picture it shows me of the bottom looks like corduroy. I have emailed Hummingbird 5-6 times with little response. I just bought a new boat and the dealer put it on for me. It does have the surface Temp on it and the depth, but the picture's not too good.

I seen some pics on here in one of the sticky threads that had some of the more realistic looking pictures. But doesn't say what kind of machine their from. Was kind of wondering that and what kind of feature it is that gives you the realistic look.

You want a side and/or down imaging unit. I run the Birds. For the combo units I think the Low has a better down image and the Bird has a better side image. Just pick the one that works for how you want to use it and you and you will love it. If you only want a down imaging unit the Bird comes standard with the 2d in addition to the down image.
