Question FF & Trolling motor using same battery....

    Good day my 'Crappy-peeps' :p

    Apologize if this is redundant....

I read in another thread where due to interference, one should have their FF using a different source of power separate from the trolling motor. I use my boat in a trolling motor based lake (no gas) and have my transducer clamped to my trolling motor. Both run from the same battery and I do not see the interference many have stated.

I've an extra battery, so running separately isn't an issue if needed. Since I do not experience the interference, what do I have to gain/lose from my current setup?

    Thanks in advance,

    Vernon

You only gain in ease of installation or in not having to rewire your FF to the other battery. Which battery you have the FF wired to is a moot point if there is no interference from the trolling motor – but the only way to know is to wire and test it that way. There is much less chance of interference (through the power system on the boat) when you wire the FF to a separate battery. Also on a separate battery you should not have to worry about draining the battery down to the point that while it may still run the trolling motor; it may not run the FF as these are more current/voltage sensitive than the trolling motors are.

    Greg,

thanks for the explanation. I'm going to bring 2 batteries the next time I go and connect separately. Both are marine batteries (1 platinum) and were used to power the trolling motor. There aren't any other wiring issues in the boat. Only items requiring power are tm & ff.

    Thank you,

    Vernon
