Question Speed for Lowrance or HB DI

I am looking at putting a DI unit at the trollong motor and have 2 questions..

Will the US2 transducer on the MK work with DI?

How fast do you have to be moving to get a clear DI image?

Bonus question::If you are sitting still will the DI & 2D images be about the same?

    Thanks for your input

Don, I've had the same questions and even went as far as calling Humminbird yesterday to ask them. Humminbird Greg also assisted me greatly! Unfortunately, the US-2 transducer is not compatible with DI. The only way to have it, is to disable the US-2 and mount the transducer directly onto the TM. Humminbird Greg told me there may be an issue with interference installing the ducer this way, so I'm really torn. Do you spend $700 on the DI, install it, only to find you have interference that effects the performance of the unit? I didn't ask them anything about the optimum speed for using the DI, but I've seen it work pretty good on the Lowrance version at speeds just over 1mph.

I'm glad you asked the question and hope there is someone who has installed a DI ducer in this fashion that can elaborate.

The Elite DI units from Lowrance will read at speeds up to 40MPH. With HDS DI I get great readings anywhere from 0-10mph.

If you mount on the trolling motor, your never going to outrun the performance of either unit. I'd say optimal is 1-5mph. You can sit still or under 1mph and see fish swim under the ducer. It's sweet.

mduncan, I do a lot of sitting still over brush..I can see fish swimming thru the cone on my 2D sonar..So when sitting still are the images about the same on the DI or can you see tree branches and other details like some of the images I see on other posts..

I saw somewhere that you had to be moving in order to get a clear DI image..

Just trying to figure out which is best for me..

    Thanks

Here is DI setting next to brush. There are fishes near bottom, but somewhat elongated. On left / right screen, you can see where the TM was turning.

Since getting structure scan di i do not use the 2d on the bow. i can slowly go over a tree and see if it has fish in it or not. U might pm Lakeshelbyvilleguideservice on the illinois forum, steve has a power point presentation showing what these units can do. He only has 4 hds unit on his boat lol. The us2 transducer is not worth using for the 2d put units puck up there in a transducer shield and saver and go catch some fish
