I take my foot pedal apart and give it a good cleaning periodically. Take the covers off and just wash the base and circuit with warm soapy water. The dirt and grit is what wears these boards out. Don't forget, the switches are just plastic bubbles with circuit trace contacts making contact. Grit will wear it out.
Dirty. Look at the little magnet on the slide area on the pcb. This is what controls the speed. This magnet pushes down on the plastic and acts like the center tap of a potentiometer as it slides up and down the track.
I found that the magnet had separated.
Clean with soap, water and an old soft tooth brush.
Wash off with warm water. Hang out with the laundry on the line for drying.

Reaper, Where Fish come to Fry
Thanks for the tip and the pics. I have been leery about taking it apart since normally things I take apart seldom go back together right! I need to clean mine. I noticed a build up the other day when trying to figure out a connection problem. Turned out the connection problem is going to require a new outlet plug and not a new foot control.

Ive had mine not work right before so i dipped it in the lake a few times seems to help the way it works.
Would electrical circuit cleaner be better? In case water proofing not up to snuff?

Also, don't forget to check the effects of the electronic cleaner with plastics. Don't assume.
