250,000 HDS units sold is a bunch. They certainly are innovating and bringing cutting edge to the consumer. I hope they keep it up.
And this image is certainly awesome from the simrad that compares to the hds7!

Panbo: The Marine Electronics Weblog: Navico 2011, firing on all cylinders?
Ottosson also made the case that Navico -- purportedly already the largest marine electronics company in sales dollars -- is really on a roll, with 2010 market share growth of 14% versus 12% for Garmin and estimates of 4% Humminbird, 3% Furuno, and 2% Raymarine. Now I'd certainly like to hear how the other companies perceive their place in what is really a pretty complicated subject, and wonder if Lowrance isn't an out-sized portion of that growth (250,000 HDS MFDs sold to date, we were told). But there's no denying Navico's rapid product roll out over the last couple of years, nor all the innovations it's introduced and been awarded for...
Sacred Heart of Mary, pray for us now, and at the hour of our death. AMEN
For those who believe, no explanation is necessary....for those who don't, no explanation is possible
For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and the whole world

When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day
They're all the same conglomerate except Humminbird, so what's the difference?
All lakes raise a foot when I step in the boat
All brands of anything from Sonars, tools, TV's, Stereos, etc. sell reconditioned items. Most are outsourced. I personally like refurbs as most get sent to a group of specialists to diagnose and repair the problem. The folks that worked most refurbishing departments are better trained than the ones on the line.
Shellback, you seem to have it out for any Lowrance product and do your best to put down any post related to Lowrance. I think both HumminBird and Lowrance make a great product and both are going to have their "Bad" units get slip through the cracks of quality control.
Regarding the original topic of this thread, I've researched and shopped them all. Lowrance has been the consistent innovator of the Marine Electronics world. It was Lowrance that first came out with sonar and side scan. Humminbird did beat them to the market with the side imaging after they bought out Bottom Line in order to be able to get their hands on the original side scan technology.
I have a good friend that swears by his 997. I believe HB makes a great unit. I also believe Lowrance does too. I've said it before it's become a Ford vs. Chevy situation and I personally don't see any need to attack one or the other on a regular basis.
Reaper, Where Fish come to Fry
You've hit a new low Shellback. Read the bit about Market share growth, then start crying about the donut thread.
I for one can't wait to see the Lowrance market share growth for 2011!!!!!
Go Navico!!! Thumbs Up Hands Clapping Shellback, when you send a Lowrance unit in on warranty, they ship you a new unit back. When you send in an HB unit, you get a refurb back. Doh Put that in your pipe and smoke it. LOL

Not always a new unit. My Low had more miles back and forth than hours use and when all was said and done they offered me an upgrade purchase replacement. They all do it, it's business, and that's the way it is.
