You're obviously a rabid Lowrance fan and should probably be getting paid for spending so much of your free time here arguing your viewpoint. Your unit definitely takes pretty snapshots but the difference in snapshot quality isn't an indication of the sonar quality difference between the two.
Thanks Hillbilly. I am a Lowrance fan, and I can view my scans right on the unit, on the water. I don't have to take them home and fix them up with the viewer. In a tournament situation, I can work with what I have on the boat, without a trip home. No donut, and a 2 year warranty. If this is out of the closet, then yes, and thank you. Stymie, Kosmo and shellbacks ignorant comments made my mind up that Lowrance was the way to go. Thanks guys, all your posts made the decision for me.

You have to be moving to build the composite of returns over time which reveals structure.
A few posts back mduncan62 posted "With HDS DI I get great readings anywhere from 0-10mph" He has posted some clear images...

I just wanted to see what the images looked like side by side sitting still...If the DI was no better than the 2D then there was no reason for me to buy a DI unit..As I have said before most of my fishing is sitting still over brush..

Don, the main difference is that the DI allows you to see THE BRUSH vs. a blob of color or gray scale junk. You will also be able to see if there are fish holding within the brush you pass over. The DI has not changed my fishing technique as far as locating the brush vs sonar, I still toss out a marker buoy as it's easier to me than trying to follow the chart to the waypoint. Once I'm anchored over the brush, I'll turn off my unit to save juice on the battery. I really couldn't afford the HDS8 I bought, but if I didn't get it when I did, I would have been regulated to something much less that I wouldn't have been happy with. I'm as proud of the HDS8 as I am the bargain of my '98 Merc I bought off Billbob. What a great motor and a nicer guy couldn't have bought it from him!Rofl

But, knowing what I know now, if I didn't own the 8, I would be completely and thoroughly happy with a simple downscan unit, no sonar, no side scan, nothing but DI is all I would need. I still have my original Ifinder for marking waypoints. My point is, if someone stole my HDS8, there is no way I could afford to replace it and I would try to pony up enough $$$ for a decent DI. By the time I can afford another sweet unit, the clarity of them will look like a digital picture.

Take a ride with someone that owns a Humminbird AND a Lowrance HDS owner, allow yourself to see why you might be interested in owning one.

And when I am BARELY MOVING, I DO get GREAT DI pics, but anchored, you sway back and forth and things bet fairly blobby.

You are funny. You've been bashing HB on this board for at least a year. Most knowledgable people would say that the two brands are comparable in SI capability. You have said yourself that you can not get your lowrance to see any distance in shallow water. So, I'd say you are the ignorant one.

Thanks Craig..I have ridden with Billbob on several occasions and all his HDS7 & HDS8 show are girly pictures...

I enjoy sitting over brush and watching a fish rise out of the brush and hit my jig..I can do this on my 2D with the fish being straight lines as is my jig...I was just looking for something a bit clearer.

The picture that Tom posted was DI sitting still. It will show you the data much the same way 2D does when you are sitting still. You have to get used to looking at it though.

It was you that pushed me away from HB and into the light with Low. Thank you my friend.

Thank you!!!! You have now answered my question..With my type of fishing the 2D will be just fine if the DI doesn't show brush any better while sitting still..

I'm sure that Lowrance & HB will come out with something better in the future..Thumbs Up I'll wait..
