    Default mounting 898 transducer

Just got my 898c si in and put the transducer on the jackplate. I hate drilling holes in my boat and am not too worried about loosing the bottom at high speeds. Was wondering if this was a good move?????? Also read a lot about updates. Are these necessary or will the unit work OK right out of the box?

That depends if you already have DI on yours if not you will need to update. The new one is just range lines on Si and to get rid of water column on Si. The Jack Plate will be Fine

I think it already has DI on it. When I registered it the only updaes were for some kind of networking stuff. Did have to download the humminbird pc stuff to format my waypoints that i was transfering from my lowrance though. Cant wait to try it out I put out some rocks and bricks and am anxious to see what it looks lide.

I'd go ahead and install that latest update. The major benefit might be the ethernet networking, but they usually improve other features as well.

Hope the 2+ hrs I spent on the net downloading all the programs I needed to download the updates I need is worth it. That is a pain......Just hope I didn't scew anything up on the unit.Does the unit only download what it needs or will a SD card with other stuff on it mess it up? Anyone know?

I use a dedicated card for updates...these units are very touchy when it comes to updates....

It's not worth the chance of screwing up the unit....

It's also a good idea to have another dedicated card with your current software on it just in case the new update goes awry...

You can get you current software version here...

I have a card that I am using for that,do I need to clean the stuff that is already on the unit off the card or will it filter that out when I put more updates on it? Everything that is on it came from the site where I regiistered the unit, or the waypoints I transfered from my Lowrance unit, have 1 of each, figure that.....
I am not sure if the updates took though. I put the card in and it acted like it was but it never said it did or anything. I put the card back in and it did the same thing.

I would format the card first...

    Get a free formatter here...
    Home - SD Association

Then put the clean software on the card...

I never take chances with the software..it's too buggy as it is without me helping trying to confuse the unit with more than just the 1 update on the card...

That would probably be best. I will just start putting 1 update at a time on the card and wiping it off when I get it on the unit.
    Thanksfor all the help....
