    Default Understanding sonar beam shapes

    Let's play with some picture diagrams of different sonar beam shapes..

    This may help some understand the differences in the various beam selections....

    Remember that just because the outside line of the beam in the "cartoon" shows the beam stopping at a certain point in the water...the sonar doesn't just go to that line and stop...it kinda feathers out onward past the line some... ....the actual outside lines in the "cartoons" are more like the best effective shape of the beam...
