Default Please help with HB 898c si!

Sorry everyone but i am new to this. I just ordered a 898 yesterday with intent on putting it up front. sounds like everyone here says they are more console mount. what do you have up front. Also I am really new and clueless on the idea of interlink and ethernet. sounded like a good idea to me to get interlink before i heard of ethernet. is the ethernet compatible with a 788 and is it out and running smooth as of today?

Several have their SI units mounted up front on the TM...

Just be aware that the turning of the TM will skew the images somewhat...it will take some learning to interpret what you are seeing on the screen...

According to this 788ci HD Combo : : Humminbird :: Marine Fishfinder it looks like the 788 is ethernet capable (although I have not actually seen the back of a 788 to confirm this)

The ethernet will be in a future software upgrade for the ethernet capable units..no word as of yet when that update will be available...

The back of the 700 series looks the same as always. The ethernet cable goes in the bottom just like the interlink does. It does not have the port on the back like the bigger units. It requires an adapter cable as well as the ethernet cable to connect it to the 788.

The other folks are correct. Only the new 788ci HD models have ethernet capability and all 700 series (788/798) will require a special adapter cable (AS EC QDE) to connect to the ethernet cable.

As of right now..the software to activate the ethernet ports has not been released. It should be soon. My understanding (Greg Walters can correct me if I'm wrong) is that Interlink and Ethernet cannot operate together. You can only use one system at a time.

As for running the 898c si from the front.....many people are doing that and love the setup. I found myself using the down imaging more than the side imaging and using a split screen with the 2D sonar to validate what I was seeing. I wouldn't hesitate to put your Si unit up front.

    Enjoy the new "Bird" !!!

What about a 797c2 si and a 788hd di, are they capable of being hooked together. Also what will they share if this is done.

    Thanks

Only units that are in the 7xx series and above and have the "HD" designation in their description, are capable of using ethernet.

The 797c2 Si and 788ci HD DI can be connected via the InterLink (the 797 does not have an Ethernet connection on it) but you will have to wait for a software update for the 797c2 Si unit before it will work – I would hold off buying the InterLink until the software comes out. They will be able to share waypoints, routes and the information from some accessories like the WeatherSense fishing barometer.

Is there any plans for WeatherSense to work over Ethernet?

I don't know BRB. They usually don't tell me anything until it gets released to the public.
