Sounds good... Is the movement in the contacts in the base the unit sets on or the unit itself?

i show power at the base mount but there seems to be a little movement at the contacts. thought i'd take the upper display unit over to gander mountain and plug it into there mount and see if it works. anybody see a problem with that approach?

Yeah they should let you do that.

the movement's in the base. the contacts appear to be fine but i noticed a little bit of wiggle in the plastic that holds them. and it seemed to me that might be enough to create the problem. when i tried to turn it on it said "loading" and the went black and nothing else happened. then i turned the acc switch off-then on again and all i saw was a verticle, green 1 1/4" band on the screen and nothing else.
Sounds like the power cable has worked lose in the base. Take the unit head off and on the back of the base there is two screws. Remove the two screws and take the bracket lose and pull the power cable out. A metal tab helps hold the cable in place, it may need bent upward to hold the plug in place. Also take some plumbers Teflon tape and wrap twice around the plug before you put it back together, hope this helps.
Don't go to Gander Mountain for testing. They can't wire up a Christmas tree right.
