    Default Loud trolling motor

I have a foot controlled trolling motor and every time I hit or let off the button it jerks and clanks around. As you could imagine this gets very annoying. I cant tell if the noise if coming from the cradle of the mount I have under it (2x4's with L brackets and aluminum on top of that), which can be changed if needed. Anyone got any ideas on how to knock out some of this noise?

Buddy of mine had a TM that made a knocking noise when you hit the switch .... come to find out that something in the gears in the unit head, had come loose. It eventually damaged the unit ... so, if I were you, I'd have a look-see, just to make sure everything's tight & right. Even if it means having to take it to a repair mechanic, it will probably be cheaper than replacing it (esp if it's a newer model).

If the noise was coming from the cradle/mount, I'd venture to guess that you could see movement of it. While you have it home, you might try it (dry run) .... deployed & in the cradle, both (so you can see if it's vibration or loose parts). Check the prop, too ... take it off & check for fishing line wrapped around the spindle ... and also make sure that the blades aren't badly chipped or damaged. Take the top cowl off the head of the unit, and check/tighten anything loose. Clean any grit/grime off the gears, and apply fresh grease (to any area that was formerly greased). After doing the tightening check & greasing ... do the dry run test. If it's still noisey/jerky ... best have a tech take a look.
