Today was my second day on the water playing with the new depth finders. The 998 performs really well but the 788 is quirky.

The chart does not orientate itself very well. Even moving faster than .6 mph it will flip around from one heading to the other erratically. While I was trolling I was heading away from the bank and it showed me driving right into it.

I spent the first couple hours side scanning and marking some structure then exported all the way points to the SD card then put them in the 788. Once I did this every time I tried changing the color of the DI screen it would lock the unit up completely. Only thing to do was just power it off. I'm talking like changing from blue to amber to brown, etc. I took the card out and deleted all the way points rebooted and still the same issue.

My friend has the same unit and his chart does the same thing. He called HB and spoke with a rep and they even called him back wanting more info. Sounds like they are looking into it which is good. He hasn't x-ferred any way points to his so his screen doesn't lock up when changing colors. I'm guessing this may have caused the issue then again it may just be coincidence. I plan to call them in the next day or so and bring it to their attention.

Not bashing the new unit for other than those two things it performs really well. The DI has a good picture. Just letting you all know the new models has a few bugs that need working out.
