Halawaka,
I just received my 596c HD Di today . I am going to have to order a trolling motor bracket for mine, so it will be a few days before I can get it up and running.
Please keep us posted on how it performs.
Thanks,

Taking this unit out for its maiden voyage in the morning. I've read through the manual 4 times hoping some of this stuff would sink in. If anybody has had one on the water did the 455 or 800 KHZ DI work better for you and how about the 455 or 200 KHZ traditional sonar? I would think the narrower and sharper 800 on the DI would be better for the relatively shallow waters of the middle Hooch and maybe the wider 2D?

If you go to crappie101 dot com and look around it will tell you everything you need to know about down imaging. Also Humminbird has downloadable manuals that explain it well.
I haven’t gotten to take one on the water yet but I would use the wider DI sonar beam (455kHz) in shallow water so that you will have more coverage. Once you find something you want a better look at; switch to the narrower 800kHz DI sonar. I would do the same with the 2D sonar as well.
Thanks all. Played with it yesterday and really liked it. A tree actually looks like a tree and a stump a stump instead of a blob! Mostly used the split screen cause the baitfish seened to show up better on 2D. It didnt help my fishin ability though.
